Missions Committee 2008 Program Descriptions | | LOCAL AREA | | Cot Program Friends of Hampshire County Homeless PO Box 60398 Florence, MA 01062 | The Next Step Collaborative is made up of a group of concerned citizens, formerly homeless individuals, advocates, clergy, lay volunteers, service providers and city and county officials. The Emergency Cot Program, which rotates among various Northampton houses of worship, provides temporary relief for individuals who are homeless. The Collaborative's short term goal is to secure a single site for emergency shelter, meals and support service programs for the homeless; the long term goal is to secure affordable housing, to assist the homeless in pursuing economic self-sufficiency and to advocate for changes in the economic system to benefit all participants. | Decisional Training Volunteers PO Box 65 Northampton, MA 01060 | Volunteers teach decision-making, problem-solving, and life-planning skills to inmates at the Hampshire County Jail & House of Correction. | Fuel Bank of Hampshire County FCAC 393 Main Street Greenfield, MA 01301 | Franklin Community Action Corp. Located in Amherst, MA, Jessie’s House: - Serves and guides homeless families towards a future of hope, good health, and a safe place to call home.
- Helps families develop the skills needed to establish sustainable self-sufficiency.
- Provides outreach services to help families continue on the path to success after leaving the shelter.
- Promotes community awareness of homelessness and related issues.

Grove Street Shelter 91 Grove Street Northampton, MA 01060 | The Inn shelters up to twenty men and women per night, for a maximum stay of three months. A bed and three meals per day are provided, along with staff support. Most nights the Inn is full, and there is often a forty-five person waiting list. Unlike many shelters, the Grove Street Inn is also open during the day so that residents can: -Work on job and housing searches. - Work second and third shift jobs. - Connect with rehabilitative and medical services. | Habitat for Humanity-Pioneer Valley PO Box 60642 Florence, MA 01062 | Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian ministry dedicated to the eradication of poverty housing in Hampshire and Franklin Counties, Massachusetts, building houses with very low income families, making homeownership possible for those who would otherwise not be able to afford a home. | CISA-Senior Farm Share Program 1 Sugarloaf Street South Deerfield, MA 01373 | CISA’s Senior Farm Share program pays local farmers to provide free shares of locally grown food to seniors, at farmstands or farmer’s markets or conveniently delivered to a local senior center or apartment building. The program provides more than 300 seniors throughout Franklin and Hampshire counties each week during the summer with enough vegetables for a week and provides participating farmers with a reliable and steady income. | United Christian Foundation P.O. PIH co-founders had been working in the area for years.
